Peniscola is an ancient town with a 13th century castle and fort which stands out on an impressive crag 64 metres above sea level.It is surrounded by endless stretches of white sands, calm waters, a sun worshipper's delight. Much closer to the house, the coast line is steep and rocky, dotted with idyllic beaches and high cliffs that form secluded coves.Water sports, golf and tennis are all within easy reach. The Citadel was made famous as the location for the movie "El Cid", with Charlton Heston and Sophia Lauren. Mr. Heston still visits Peniscola during its film festival.

The old town is a warren of tightly-packed cobbled streets, with a buzzing life during the day and night. It is a visitors' delight with its antique shops, artist studios and pottery stores.The town and harbour areas near the castle with their white washed buildings, shops and restaurants offer plenty to do for all ages.
